The rainiest day. Ever. Literally.
Today it has rained and rained and rained. And it’s still raining. At the start of the day they said that it would be the rainiest day in 50 years. They underestimated. It’s become the rainiest day in Sheffield’s history. There is flooding everywhere. Parts of the city with no electricity. 900 people evacuated. And it’s just grim. The city looks miserable.
Our friend Emily is a doctor and she has just texted to say that she’s going to be at work all night. One guy has drowned walking home and they’ve just had another guy brought in who was on the brink of drowning.

Oh, the wetness. There are helicopters flying around rescuing people. I’ll try to get to work tomorrow. I’ll be hoping, for the sake of people whose houses are flooded, that it subsides overnight and gets back to normal. The ceiling at my office collapsed from water saturation today. Not good…

I happened to be in Romania (on a mission trip) a couple of years ago during some of the worst flooding in modern history. I know it is terrible - I said a prayer for you and the people of Sheffield.

We’re doing fine as we live very high up.
They’re manically pumping water out of a reservoir at the moment where the dam has started to crack. Let’s hope that holds!

I couldn’t get into work today. They’ve closed roads in case the damn bursts and 35 acres of resevoir flood the motorways and villages. Also, there are electricity pylons that would come down and bring 270,000 volts into the water. Shared experiences definitely bring people together. This is a perfect opportunity to talk to random people!

I love your thinking Rachal get those random people, Hope you and Sam are well, do you know anyone flooded, Sam your should have listened when they said build a big boat and name it something catchy like……………… Ark 2…. I’m sure there is a film coming out about something like that..maybe not so funny after this!!

Wow Sam, I’m really sorry to see all the damage and destruction in your city. Thankfully you guys are okay.
I agree with Simon and Rachel about this being a great opportunity to reach out. I think the church can really show that it’s relevant to people in need and communicate God’s love to the world.
