Rome wanted it. So did Hong Kong and New York. But Yorkshire saw them all off and the Bollywood Oscars, a glittering celebration of celluloid romance, song and dance, will come to the white rose county next year.

I don’t know how many Bollywood films or Indian celebrations you guys may have been to but when they come to town, DON’T MISS OUT!

We enjoy having a large and active Indian community here in Ventura County. Whether it’s watching a Bollywood film at a friend’s house (Kunal, a bassist that plays with Jason and often comes to our community gatherings: http://kunal.voxtropolis.com) or attending a major Friends of India event—these people party with a playfulness and exhuberance that must be experienced to be fully appreciated!

Bollywood films are … different, but very high quality productions. In some ways it’s as if the Indian film industry is reliving the golden age of the Hollywood musical.

And of course, if you ever get to attend any catered Indian party, then you’ll realize that it was worth being there just for the food. Mmnn, good.

Yet another thing I hope we are there in time for!!!! I may come just for this if we arent living there!

I’m really excited. I love Bollywood! The city nearest to Sam and I growing up has a huge Asian population and cinemas just for Bollywood films. So much energy and colour.

Slightly more mainstream - has anyone seen “Bride and Prejudice” or “Monsoon Wedding”? Both brilliant films. The first film is by the makers of “Bend it like Beckham”.

(If I was saying this out loud, I’d be mumbling cos I still can’t open my mouth that wide!)

Some people might say that was a positive Rachael, lol, keep getting that man of your to give you the pamper treatment as for bollywood I thought that was a bowling alley near Hull, lol

I think I might need to make a special trip to England just to attend the Bollywood festival! Like Dean mentioned, we’ve had some exposure lately, it’s been educational, hilarious, and overall a good time. You’ve got to attend!

Rachel, I’ve only seen one Bollywood movie, and I forget what it was called. But I remember a line the main character used all the time: “Drop the tension!” I don’t know why, but it made me laugh and stuck with me… I’m still wanting to see Bride and Prejudice — will you bring it over and we can watch it as you recover, okay?

  • Sam. Sam.

Maybe there should be a VOXTROPOLIS trip on mass to Sheffield for this!

Oh boy! only if we get to go shopping for sari’s first!

Staci…Bride and Prejudice is good…well…it’s goofy…but I like it. Lagaan is a great movie…drama Bollywood more than goofy…and a great starter Bollywood movie is Kal Ho Naa Ho…(Pretty Woman) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0347304/ .

Oh I really enjoyed Swades…http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367110/ it’s about a succesful scientist that returns to his village in India from the US and gives them the gift of electricity…some amazingly random music videos in it!

Lagaan Bride and Prejudice are good starters for people new to Indian movies. I have always been fond of Ek Rishtaa which Deana and I saw in a movie theater in Bombay with our friends. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is another of my faves. If you are around us much, you’ll inevitably end up seeing Bollywood movies…

Yes, we need to try to come to Bollysheffield.
