Glad you’re happy honey. Sorry that your tooth hurts and the antibiotics have been rubbish. I think you’ll just have to have them all out!

Do you really want a toothless husband honey?!

Terry - was there a lot of coverage of the Ryder Cup in the US? It’s completely overshadowed the Premiership football this weekend (which says A LOT) and has been front and back page news with the papers here. The last two victories in particular have amazed me because, player for player, the Americans have the better individual players.

Now we all know the overwhelming victory was due to it being held on the Emerald Isle!!!
What’s this about your tooth, are you to be known as gummy

minimal coverage here - remember sunday is the day for American football!

you are so right about the amercians having the better individual players - we just don’t seem to get this team thing.

Luck of the Irish hey Simon?!

    are we european now?

on a serious note leaving mainland europe aside what about the Uk and the States. The americans are always optimistic and i find the nation (the USA that is) as always having a attitude of ‘that can be possible, whereas i always find the UK as being ‘oh now that will be difficult’, is it something in the teaching system or just national identity. Even with the golf the USA were talking up their guys pointing out their strengths even if some of them were rookies. Just a thought/?????

Good question Alex!! I guess in the context of the Ryder Cup, the answer is yes! My convictions in all other contexts remain very much the same though! (What does “BIGO” mean?)

I watched my first Ryder Cup with my dad (who was a steward), at Lindrick near Sheffield, some 50 years ago. I think the UK (not Europe then) lost. I remember my dad (a scratch player and Sheffield Amatuer Champion in ‘38) telling me that in the UK we don’t not have the ‘killer’ instinct. We are too gentlemanly - play up and play the game and all that. However I think finally we are reaching a point where we are technically and mentally as good - better in fact than the US. BUT we have not lost the respect and gentlemanly quality, it simply enhances the result. It was nice to see that this time Tom Lehman and his team were gentlemanly in defeat.

BTW if it was only down to the luck of the Irish the US would probably win hands down. There must be more Irish blood in the US than in Ireland and Europe together!!

BUT finally there is something about the game of golf that echoes our walk with Jesus. Some days we are in the rough and all over the place, some days we are straight down the middle, some days we get to the green in regulation and then mess up by three putting. BUT after each round we always want to go back for more to see if we can make it better and get closer to His pefect score.

I thought I remember you saying you weren’t a European?????

    Pete,

I like the thoughts. As an Irishman myself, when we were over in LA at ORIGINS I had to laugh every day at how many Americans claim the Irish blood. There was this one guy who said ‘My great, great grandfather was Scottish, his wife was Welsh, so that makes me Irish.’ I have to laugh!! I bet there probably are Native Americans who claim they are Irish.

But watch out…it was from Ireland that the mystical spark of Jesus was re-ignited hundreds of years ago, and I think it is going to happen again.

Social categories are interesting things aren’t they? We so often choose the category that either gives us the most prestige, the most comfort or the most connection to something larger than ourselves. Alternately we reject the claims of others who claim to be one of us when their claim would broaden and devalue our categories.

Not trying to connect that to any one response, but it’s worthwhile considering every once and a while.

Like your comments parke, i think if you want to find out what social category you fit into step outside of your own culture and norm toses are the people who will tell you wether you like it or not.

Parke and Sidney, if you are talking about stepping outside your social category check out Mike Yankoski’s books ‘UNDER THE OVERPASS’ and ‘MY 30 DAYS UNDER THE OVERPASS - NOT YOUR ORDINARY DEVOTIONAL’ which are about his time living rough with his friend SAM on the streets of several US cities

I’ve just finished reading the devotional, which is a little book that every follower of Jesus should read, but beware - reading it could seriously change your life!

Check out his site @ http://www.undertheoverpass.com and his video @ http://www.30hourfamineblog.com/video.aspx

    hey mate,

can you tell me how to post my photos on my blog? I’m trying very hard, but can’t seem to make it happen…do you have the technology?

    R

  • Sam. Sam.

Russ, if you’re going to put a lot of your pictures online, the best way is to use the Flickr website: http://www.flickr.com. You can create an account and store all your pictures there. Once you’ve done that and you pics are online, it’s easy to then drag pictures into your blog posts.

Let me know how you get on and if you need any more help.
