Mosaic flier

We’re working on a flier to give out primarily to new students arriving in Sheffield to study this September. Students are going to be a big part of our focus in these early stages as we pioneer Mosaic Sheffield and we are developing a 10 week internship to invest in and equip students to make a difference on campus. Dean has very kindly designed the flier for this internship, but we are also develoing this generic Mosaic flier to give out as well. We wanted to go for something vibrant, different, fun, messy, un-churchy, and full of colour and energy. We’d love to know what you think and any feedback you have (click on the images to see larger versions).

This is my favourite thing we’ve done so far! I think we’ve probably got the wording on the back right now. And I like the additional yellow flowers. Liking it all lots.

    Good work honey

Thanks Dean. And yeah, those three words go a long way to capture so much of our heart.

Hope you’re ok? It’s been a while since we touched base.

Thanks, we’re great. Busy, busy, busy. You know, Alex and Niza have been staying with us for weeks now (it’s been great to have them around) and we’re approaching the home stretch to get them to Orlando. Michael and Erica are headed to Brazil in a couple of weeks. Niza and Lucas are flying to Orlando to find an apartment. Alex and I leave L.A. on the 30th of this month to drive their car cross-country (5 days) to Orlando. Yes, we’ll be posting the “VOXing Across the American South” road trip. Once we’re there, I get a day’s rest then spend two days coordinating with Northland Community Church facilities director concerning HUMANA 2.0 for February ‘07. Then, Alex and I fly out of Orlando to Atlanta to begin a solid month of the ‘06 Makers of Fire Tour. Atlanta, Chattanooga, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago, Kansas City, Providence, home. It will be great, but long. We’ll be traveling all of September. I’m really looking forward to it, but I’ll miss my beautiful Tina. You guys will have to keep her busy with posts so she won’t get too lonely. One great thing though is that in-between Chicago and Kansas City she’s going to fly out and meet me in Manhattan for four days to do nothing but celebrate our anniversary.

So, whew, fun huh? Pray for us, we make most of this up as we go along.

Sam, Love the flyer. Great stuff.

Dean, what a fabulous trip. I’m so jealous. I am the road trip queen! I wish I could go to one of the conferences but I’m flat broke; next time! I’ll be praying for safe travels and God to do his will with the conferences and meetings. :-)

The flyer looks very professional! The colours go well together too! I think the yellow adds brightness, but the grey mellows the yellow…ha ha mellow yellow.

Getting more and more excited about our trip there! Can’t wait to see you guys!

  • Sam. Sam.

Dean - wow! lots going on. Thanks for the update. We’ll definitely be praying for you…I’ve no doubt that Makers of Fire tour is going to be awesome!

Mel - glad you like it…I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out as it was just an experiment really!

Deana - “The flyer looks very professional!” - you sound surprised?!!

It’s barely a month now til you guys will be here!! Cool!

flyer looks great. I’m a total sucker for using yellow/shades of grey/white in design!

I don’t doubt there was much deliberation over wording. I find that kind of thing a great challenge to do well. Not because there isn’t lots of great adjectives and meaning-laden descriptors to choose from… but the balance between using words to describe what we are now and what we hope to become.

I’ve pressed buttons on this here at church in regards to advertising because you want to create a bit of hype/vibe… but are new people coming in expecting an experience that lives up to the advertising when you are describing who you are becoming or hope to become… but in all honesty not who you yet are. So what do these people experience? Most won’t worry about it if they still have a positive experience… but will others feel a tinge of false advertising? How do you then give people more than they were expecting if you’ve already set their expectations to maximum by using all the uber-words?

No doubt that talented folks like Dean and flowerdust and others more versed in the world of ads/marketing/communication have more wisdom than I in this. Hopefully others will share their thoughts because I need more wisdom in this area!
