How Gucci helped me get married
Whilst many people might look at my wife Rachel and I and think, “ah, what a happily married young couple”, it didn’t actually start out that way. The truth is that the first time I asked her out on a date she made it abundantly clear that she wasn’t in the slightest bit interested. Not only that, she was clearly very put out by the idea.
And so I retreated with my tail firmly between my legs. I don’t think there are many feelings much worse than the one of rejection. You just end up feeling so small and wanting the earth to swallow you. This is one of the few moments when men are truly vulnerable. Our hearts are laid bare. And oh how it hurts when we don’t get what we ask for. Little did I know though how Gucci was going to come to my rescue.
It was a few months later in the February of 2003 that things began to change. Rather randomly, Rachel had the thought appear in her head that “Sam would look alright if he had different glasses”. (Yeah, thanks hon…nice to know I look “alright” with the right glasses on!) Anyway, low and behold, the very next day a group of us were going to the cinema. And guess what? I turn up wearing a brand new pair of very cool looking Gucci glasses.
Being young and single with a reasonable income, I’d decided to waste a bit of money and pay for some over-priced Gucci glasses. But it turned out to be some of the best money I’d ever spent. The seeds of uncertainty about her previous decision had now been sown! The start of a whole new journey was about to begin. Gucci had helped trigger a relationship that otherwise might never have happened!
Moral of the story? Pick your glasses carefully!

that is funny…sometimes it takes the smallest things to change our minds! ha ha…could have something to do with the kung fu prayer walk you had though.

Yes, the prayer walk was a big part of it a bit further down the line. The glasses at least got my foot in the door I guess!!

I’m the same, Sam. I couldn’t get a look in until I bought my shiny cyan spandex trousers. 15 years later, we are still a happy couple.

Read through this and thought… Mandylion (snakesanddoves) would have to have commented. It has been a great 15 years. (17 since the trousers, that at least puts them back in the 1980s!) Maybe I should post the picture on my site sometime! lol. Thanks Sam
