Football, Friends, and a Mission Team
It’s been a few days since I’ve posted, so I thought I’d give a bit of an update. I’ve actually just finished watching England’s last warm up game before the World Cup starts next week. We won 6-0 which was good - though it was only Jamaica we were playing (no offence to all my Jamaican readers!) I definitely feel that we have a better opportunity of winning the World Cup than in any of the more recent competitions. We have a team full of some of the world’s best players. The only downside is that our star striker is recovering from a broken foot and is only likely to be fit for the latter stages. I do actually think we can win it even if he doesn’t get fit in time. Main obstacles to our winning the competition 40 years on from when we last won it? Probably Brazil and Germany. Brazil because they’re Brazil, and Germany because they have home advantage which can make a real difference. Anyway, that’s enough football for now, though I’m sure they’ll be much more over the next 5 weeks as we progress towards victory!!
Last night we went out with our friends John and Claire which was lovely. John used to work where I work and Claire still does (well, until the end of this month anyway). They also live in the same area of Sheffield as us which is cool. Last night we were actually taking them out for dinner as a thank you because Claire has been giving me lots of lifts to and from work whilst Rachel stole my car for the last six months! It was great to spend time with them and also talk about our trip to LA which is something we’re always happy to do!
This morning we went and spent some time with a mission team from America (Waco, Texas) who are over helping Antioch Community Church (American church plant) here in Sheffield. Rachel led us in a time of singing and then I just shared some of our story over the last year or so, how God has been leading us, and shared some thoughts on church, connecting to those outside of church, culture, etc. It was great to hang out with them. They are a great group of people and it’s exciting that God seems to be sending people from all around the world to serve in Sheffield.
Ok, I think that will do for now. What’s been happening in your world over the last few days?
