A trip to Universal Studios

Yesterday we had another great day, this time visiting Universal Studios. We had so much fun! Here’s a picture diary of our day:

Driving though LA on route to Universal Studios (we did - eventually - see the proper Hollywood sign on our way back!

Looks amazing huh? Don’t tell anyone, but we’re actually sitting in front of a big screen!

We took the Studio tour which takes you all round the sets that have been used in movies and TV shows

Much of Jaws was filmed here

The street where Desperate Housewives is filmed

This is the set of one of the scenes on War of the Worlds (they destroyed an actual plane for this)

We took the Jurassic Park ride which was lots of fun and finishes off with a nice 84 foot vertical drop

Well we still have to eat, right?!

We finished our stay with the WaterWorld show which was lots of fun…and we stayed dry which was a bonus

Finishing off the day with dinner at Hard Rock Café

That was our appetizer…why’s everything so big?!

Everything’s so big because you’re meant to share!

I ate at a Hardrock a month or two ago in Nashville. So much fun. I love seeing all the guitars signed by famous rock stars. There was an Eric Clapton! :-) And believe it or not, I have in fact eaten at the original one in London, too. So now we’ve swapped countries for burgers, as well as Starbucks coffee! :-)

Looks like fun! Rachel and I were talking last night about finding a seafood restaurant when we are there so she can try crab and lobster!

Did you see any movie stars wandering around the sets?

  • Sam. Sam.

We didn’t even finish it when sharing, Mel!

And Deana, unfortunately we didn’t see any stars (other than ourselves of course!!)

Sam its great to see the photos of LA. I wish I was there. I did aim to go to MOSAIC this year but somehow didn’t make it. If you see Pete (my minister from Chadderton) and Karen Shepherd please give them my regards and say I am there in Spirit. tell them to bring back some good stuff from Erwin et al. Say hi to Erwin for me - we talked at Stafford .

    have a great time.

I know, it’s impossible to eat that much with just a few of you! My friends and I, when we go for appetizers, usually get a few and split them between several people, and then call it a meal. Most places have a “happy hour” when appetizers are half price, so it can be a pretty good deal.

Ironic truth: I said everything gets bigger in America the further West you head. I lied. I forgot about one thing: the people get smaller! Not everyone, of course, but a lot of them. I’ve only been in California once and that only for a two-day conference where I was cooped up in a church basement most of the time; but when I was out and about, the thing that startled me most was how many thin and blonde and tan and glamourous-looking people there were. Certainly there is a much higher percentage of “beautiful people” in Cali.

It must be only tourists who eat in restaurants with enourmous servings because I can’t see how people like Gwyneth Paltrow eat at all and look the way they do. Diets are the order of the day, and if they don’t work, by all means try an eating disorder! Very sad.
