My last week
Well I thought it was time to give a bit of an update on the goings on in my life recently. It’s been a good week or so since my birthday weekend the weekend before last. I’m still feeling as young as ever despite numerous people pointing out how close I am to 30 now! (Apologies to those of you who are offended by me thinking 30 is old!)
New Laptop!ÂÂ
The highlight of my last week was probably the new laptop computer I got! (I know it’s really sad, but I am an IT manager so technology excites me ok!) It’s a very nice, ultra-portable Sony Vaio (VGN-S5HP). It came with a free 3G data card too which is cool as I can now connect to the Internet pretty much anywhere.
Ok. Onto less geekish things! We had another nice weekend away this weekend just gone. This time we were in Buxton (about 50 minutes from Sheffield) where Rachel’s parents have an apartment. Our friends, Simon and Lis, from St Helen’s came over to see us for the day on Saturday which was great. I love hanging out with those guys. Our hearts are so one, and it’s always so refreshing spending time with them. Lis is 8 months pregnant too which is very exciting!
BBC Radio Sheffield
The Sunday morning was a bright and early start as we had to get back to Sheffield for 8am for our interview on Radio Sheffield. (Go to http://mosaicsheffield.voxtropolis.com to find out more about that.) That went really well and it was great opportunity to share some of our heart for Mosaic Sheffield.
On Sunday evening we went to visit Antioch Community Church in Sheffield. It is a new church plant started by a team from Texas who have come over. They are doing some great work and have a very similar heart for church to ours. Also, they have in many ways adopted me and Rachel during our time out before starting Mosaic and they are going to get their whole church to pray for us next Sunday. Don’t you love the way God leads different people into our lives at just the right time to encourage and bless us?!
Another interview!ÂÂ
The final story I’ll share from this last week actually just happened yesterday. I got a call from one of the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton (home of The Alpha Course) saying that they would like to interview me and Rachel for their forthcoming marriage magazine. Nicky and Sila Lee (who wrote The Marriage Book and have created The Marriage Course and The Marriage Preparation Course) interviewed us live at a recent conference they did and said they would like to put it to print. So we got back in from work and then had a 20 minute telephone interview about our experience on The Marriage Preparation Course which we did 4 months before we got married. It was fun! And, if you’re getting married soon, you should SO find out about doing The Marriage Preparation Course. We have benefited so much from it and it’s been a real help as we have embarked on the journey that is marriage.
What’s been the best thing(s) about your last week or so?

-My little sister was home from school last week for Spring Break (her school is in Virginia, several hours’ drive from Cincinnati).
-My friend Twix is in town this week.
-A Vernal Equinox Fete held at my apartment: colouring eggs, planting seeds, bread shaped like the sun to go with cheese and wine, a cake with icing as white as the moon, constellations mapped out on my living room wall, etc. Great fun.
-My roommate’s birthday is tomorrow.

PS What pressure, to be interviewed about one’s marriage and have the ins and outs recommended to the general public as “do this” or “don’t do that.” I would hate it! Glad you seem to handle it alright. (My grand life’s goal is never to be interviewed or put on television. Just too much of an introvert, I suppose. I like my privacy.

Mel - thankfully, we were being interviewed more with a view to promoting The Marriage Preparation Course than sharing the inner workings of our marriage. I’d certainly like longer than just 18 months of marriage before we start talking about our marriage in the sense of “do this” or “don’t do that”!

best things that have happened…celebrated our anniversary. It was kind of a big marker to us.

Hey Sam, finally got a chance to hear your podcast/interview. Just wanted to say how excited I am for you! I can’t wait till I begin my church launch phase! Would love to continue hearing the updates… and whatever happens going forward, don’t forget how blessed you already are.

Thank you, Lon! Will definitely keep you updated.
What stage are you at with your church plant?

Oh, just about the conference, ok, that sounds much better! Well, that’s actually very nice, then. Well done, you! I’m happy for you that things are going so well.
