Sam

I doubt everyday. It builds my faith though. Oxymoron: doubting faithfully, or a faithfull doubter.

If I can\'t doubt I won\'t be able to be part of Mosaic Sheffield.

I do believe though that we need to work very responsibly with our doubts. What does that mean?

\"Working through your doubts, not giving up on them, bringing them to God. Not giving up on all the other answers you have, but using them to address current doubts.\"

Nice thought.

Deana - it was definitely a slightly odd thought to have just pop into my head!

Kelly - thanks for stopping by...sorry for causing you to not stop thinking about the question!

James - you\'re dead right. Direction is key.

I like the idea of direction, what I pray for the future community I desire to be invoved with is that people moving towards Christ will predominate. I think an athiest moving towards to Christ might be more spiritually significant than a Christian moving away from Christ.

Sam - I originally started this reply because I wanted to say thanks for welcoming me to the city. I couldn't figure out how to do that from my page. So, thanks for the welcome! I have two small children and my brain is toast right now, so I was trying not to think about your question - but I can't stop thinking about your question. :) I had never heard of Mosaic, so I'll have to check that out. I definitely prefer the sincere doubters. Both groups are in trouble in the eternal sense - I would rather deal with people who are honest about where they are so that we can get to the heart of things. It scares me to my core that people are going to get to heaven and be surprised that they will not be let in.

Nathan - I love your comment about insincere people lacking the courage of their convictions...so true.

Mel - This is dead on: "If we can’t be honest with ourselves, God, and each other first, then nothing else we do is going to help anyone."

Sincerity! The Truth will always trump everything else in my book. If we can't be honest with ourselves, God, and each other first, then nothing else we do is going to help anyone. Truth, hope, and love. That is what the Church has to offer the World. Lose one of those three, and you lose the rest of them too.

I'd take a handful of "do-ers" who have moments of doubt than an army of people who know the lingo but dont' live the Way. "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show my faith by what I do."

Insincere people lack the courage of their convictions. A sincere and searching atheist may benefit the Kingdom more than a dozen faith-dead "Christians."
