Why I follow Jesus
Rachel showed me a book of hers last night called “Why I follow Jesus” by the author Adrian Plass. I’ve never read any of his stuff but I was taking a look at the contents page and I loved all the chapter titles and thought I’d share some here:
Why I follow Jesus:
- I follow Jesus because I want to be with my friends forever
- I follow Jesus because I don’t know where else to go and, in any case, I find it very hard to stop
- I follow Jesus because he’s gentle with people who have been badly hurt
- I follow Jesus because he’s interested in the heart of worship rather than the form
- I follow Jesus because now and then I get the chance to follow his example and stir people up
- I follow Jesus because he’s the only one who know’s the path to genuinely solid ground
- I follow Jesus because he defends us and battles for us, and has been through a terrible storm for us
- I follow Jesus because he does miracles
- I follow Jesus because he doesn’t do miracles
- I follow Jesus because he knows that evil smells often have a very ordinary origin
- I follow Jesus because, in his world, love comes first
- I follow Jesus because he’s less boring and narrow about salvation than an awful lot of his followers
- I follow Jesus because he encourages me to live ‘now’
- I follow Jesus because he’s more interested in what happens behind the scenes than my public posing
- I follow Jesus because he forgives me for sins I’m not even aware of, for being extremely silly, and for sometimes being very annoying to other people
- I follow Jesus because he sometimes lets me visit him in prison
- I follow Jesus because he’s kinder and more merciful than those who have done dreadful things in his name during the last 2000 years
- I follow Jesus because he values everyone equally and is teachin me to do the same
- I follow Jesus because he brings something good out of the most (apparently) awful events
- I follow Jesus because I don’t want to get stuck or left behind in someone else’s camp
- I follow Jesus because he’s a stickler for accuracy and truth
- I follow Jesus because he he doesn’t insist that we must all have Scottish accents (and no, I didn’t add that one in myself, James!)
- I follow Jesus because he offers hope for the future
What do you think?

SEE THE RUGBY SAM? … I am sure you said you would want to talk to me about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward’s Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.

# I follow Jesus because I don’t know where else to go and, in any case, I find it very hard to stop
# I follow Jesus because he doesn’t do miracles
# I follow Jesus because, in his world, love comes first
Do post about’em sometime if you get a chance to read through

Oh, yes, that echoes… where else can I go having tasted His life?
Sounds like a good book. I also recommend Brennan Manning, “Ruthless Trust” and “A Glimpse of Jesus.”

Hi Sam,
Yes, I am actually still in this city and am at least somewhat current on the local buzz. I have been kept rather busy and very fatigued by my job and haven’t taken time to post or comment much recently. Thanks for checking.
This weekend I am flying to Orlando with Dean for the House Blend cafe / VOX hot spot grand opening. Should be fun.
I was looking for a way to simply send you an email, but there are no “email me” links on Vox resident pages that I could find. Is there a way I could add one?

Dave - good to hear from you. How was the grand VOX Hotspot opening?
Hermann - how are things? Did I tell you that we are definitely coming to SA in January 2008? We should plan something!

Hey Sam - When I was living in England I was a huge fan of Plass and (since he lived in Sussex) got to meet him . . . Great writings with a lot of edge.
Funny, I hadnt thought about him for years and then he shows up on your website and on a Mike Frost mp3 in the same week.
Did you read his “Sacred Diary”? - Hilarious!!
Peace!

Hey Mark, how long were you living in England for and what were you doing here?
Amazingly, I am very new to Plass. My wife, Rachel, loves his stuff, as do many friends of mine. I am looking forward to reading some of his stuff.
Thanks for stopping by!

Sam, the HotSpot opening was fun! Watching common vision taking root on the other side of the continent was very exciting. I think they had a line out the door at least once on the night of the grand opening. Their menu is amazing. I had nowhere near enough time to try more than a few dishes, but the few I tasted I thoroughly enjoyed. It is a very cool cafe. I can’t wait to see the patio they plan to build.
