Joining God’s Quest
I was thinking today about the word “quest. The Encarta Dictionary defines it as a search for something, especially a long or difficult one and a journey in search of something, especially one made by knights in medieval tales. I really like the word as a description of our walk with Christ. I like the fact that it implies movement and how it implies there is more to be discovered. When you are on a quest you are moving forward, you have a purpose, you are discovering new things, and you are entering into the unknown. It is an adventure. It is full of mystery and changes of direction. It requires us to have courage, to face fear, and to overcome obstacles.
For sure, Christ is the fulfilment of our ultimate quest, but in many ways doesn’t our quest for Christ merely open the door to a whole new quest? It strikes me that finding Christ is not the end of our journey; it is just the beginning. It is a quest that leads us into the darkness of this world to bring to bear the light of Christ. A quest that puts us at odds with the kingdoms of this world as we seek to bring in Christ’s kingdom. It is a journey to seek out those who are lost and to offer them the hope of Christ and the invitation to join His quest.
I wonder if many of us, having found Christ, have put our feet up thinking that we now just need to hang around for heaven. And in doing so have many of us never truly embarked on the quest that God has for us? Have we missed out on God’s invitation to enter into future and bring it into the present?
Life was always meant to be an adventure. And yet how often, if we are honest, do our lives simply end up drifting in the mires of the mundane? We end up settling for the same sort of nice life that the world around us is all living for: nice job, nice house, nice car, nice children, and nice everything. There is little need for us to live with courage. Hardly anything we do really challenges us. How much of what we do with our lives truly require God to intervene? We are meant to be living by faith in God and yet too many of us have been sucked down to a lesser life of trusting the things around us.
God is calling out people of courage. People who will put their trust in Him. People who will join His quest to redeem this world. People who won’t be sucked down into mundane, comfortable living. People who will enter the dark places of this world and expose them to the light of Christ. People who will hear the battle cry and rise up as warriors of light, goodness, and love. People who will hear what the Spirit is saying and go where He leads – no matter the cost.
Many hear the call, but only few respond…

Sam I really enjoy reading your thoughts, not always commenting, but always reading. Thanks.
